Sand Sculpture
July 3, 2009
|
With his military and artistic background, Plainwell resident artist Charles Wakefield offered to help with fundraising efforts for the Plainwell Area Vetrans Memorial. Wakefield donated over 500 hours of time to create the 17 foot high, 100 ton SAND SCULPTURE that will be on display at the former Plainwell Paper Mill. VFW Post 9377 has worked over the past year to make the "Greater Plainwell Veterans Memorial" a reality. Sales of engraved bricks commemorating loved one's, a significant source of funding for the memorial, will form a paved area in front of the memorial in Sherwood Park. On July 3rd and 4th between 10:00 and 9:00 bring your family to Plainwell, Michigan to view the amazing exhibit constructed by Charles Wakefield, designed and built to honor our veterans while raising money for a permanent Veterans Memorial to be built in Plainwell's Sherwood Park. The Chamber encourages everyone to see this fabulous exhibit honoring those who have given so much for our freedom. Admission is free and donations will be gratefully accepted. Sand Sculpture future open dates: July 24th & 25th Island City Festival September 5th & 7th (Labor Day) |
